We are fast approaching completion on site for our bold transformation of Grade-II listed Stephenson Memorial Hall and our Client, Chesterfield Borough Council, has announced a relaunch of the venue as the ‘1435’. The name celebrates one of George Stephenson’s greatest innovations: the standard gauge rail track, which has become the global benchmark for rail travel. You can read more about the relaunch here.
We are incredibly proud of how the transformation is shaping up on site. It’s exciting to see the strategy and details all coming together – the significant improvements to accessibility and circulation flows around the building are particularly satisfying to see. It has been a complex and ambitious project: unlocking opportunities to solve accessibility challenges, highlight the spatial qualities of the original building, and add cleverly designed extensions.
The relaunched venue will combine arts, culture, and heritage, and is due to open in late-2026 in time to host this year’s panto! It is going to be a fantastic civic venue for Chesterfield and the wider region, and we can’t wait for everyone to see it.
