French photographer Marc Riboud
BLA are beginning to work on the design for an inaugural exhibition planned for the opening of the new Leeds City Museum programmed to open in 2008. The exhibition will showcase photographs of Leeds taken 50 years ago by the French photographer Marc Riboud. Curator’s Notes: In the 1950s, the young Riboud came to Leeds on assignment for Picture Post. Unfortunately, in the midst of the assignment Riboud was recalled to Paris – for the funeral of Robert Capa – and his photographs ( some 60 plus) were not developed until 50 years later! Thus, they are a rare glimpse of Leeds – through a Frenchman’s eyes, and a fascinatingly biased (both prejudiced and endearing) view of the Northern town. Anna Douglas
